The Ministry of Natural Resources has fined a St. Helens man $3,000 and prohibited him from possessing a licence for one year after he pled guilty to careless hunting.
The case was heard in Goderich court on August 1.
According to the Ministry, an employee of the Town of Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh was nearly struck with a bullet on June 5.
Investigation by the OPP revealed that Andrew Stutzman had discharged a .22 calibre rifle at a squirrel in his yard, shooting in the direction of the main intersection of Belfast Road and St. Helens Line.
The bullet missed the employee by feet and hit the Township building.
Justice of the Peace Tara Oudekerk said Stutzman is also required to successfully complete remedial training before obtaining another hunting licence.
