Children's Safety Village seeks funding from Bruce County

The Saugeen Valley Children's Safety Village is looking for a boost in funding from Bruce County.

Spokesman Al Leach made a recent presentation to council explaining how the village has benefited the region.

Leach thanked the county for $15,000 in support since 2017, but noted Grey County has provided $68,000 to date and has further committed $32,000 for 2025 and 2026.

The village provides free safety training programs to thousands of children from Kindergarten to Grade 6. This year, 1,947 students attended programs from April through June; including children from the following Bruce County schools – Lucknow, Paisley, Walkerton, Southampton, Tara, Mildmay, Port Elgin, Kincardine and Ripley.

The village also had bookings for scouts, guides, and municipal day camps the second week of July. The village is now booking into the spring of 2025 with May almost fully booked.
