Bruce County urges drivers to stay safe as winter weather moves in

Bruce County’s Transportation Department is reminding drivers to stay safe on the roads this winter as the season brings quickly changing and sometimes hazardous conditions.

A multi-day lake effect snow squall event could last into Tuesday, and bring up to 75 cm of snowfall. Bruce County is urging all roadway users to drive cautiously and stay informed about winter road conditions.

Officials emphasize the importance of winter readiness. Ensure your vehicle is equipped with working winter tires, functional windshield wipers, and a stocked emergency kit. Drivers are advised to clear all snow and ice from their vehicles, reduce speed, and maintain extra space between cars to avoid collisions.

Passing snow plows is strongly discouraged, as these vehicles operate at lower speeds to keep roads clear. And remember, police may close roads for safety, and driving on a closed road can result in fines or being towed.

When in doubt, it’s always safer to delay travel and avoid unnecessary risks.

People can find more information under road closures on CKNXNewstoday.ca, or on Bruce County’s Road Conditions webpage.
