CKNX Radiothon raises over $375K for local health care

Hospitals across mid-western Ontario are getting funding to help improve care for patients.

The CKNX Health Care Heroes Radiothon was held on Saturday for the 23rd straight year.

The fundraiser took place on AM920 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. with over $375,000 being raised. Some of those who donated include Germania Mutual Insurance, Bruce Power, Howick Mutual Insurance, and Axiom Mutual Insurance.

Hospitals in Wingham, Mount Forest, Palmerston, Walkerton, Listowel, Clinton, Hanover, and Seaforth will be splitting the money.

The seven-hour broadcast included patient stories and interviews highlighting certain fundraising goals and projects.

Some of the projects included getting hematology analyzers, patient beds, laboratory equipment, and vital sign monitors.

According to the Mount Forest Louise Marshall Hospital Foundation, fundraisers like the radiothon are needed because capital equipment costs aren’t supported through government funding.

Including this year’s total, the radiothon has raised nearly $14.9 million.

Those who didn’t take part during the fundraiser can still help by sending $10 donations by text until the end of October. All they need to do is text the word HERO followed by the name of the hospital they like to support to 41010.
