A driver from Toronto has been cited following a scary incident Friday morning in Markdale.
Grey Bruce OPP say a 13-year-old student was boarding a school bus when they were struck by a southbound vehicle along Hwy 10 in in Chatsworth Township.
The bus was stopped with its lights on, and the stop sign was activated.
The student was taken to hospital, where they were checked out for minor injuries.
The 63-year-old driver was ticketed for failing to stop for a school bus.
"It is illegal to fail to stop for a stopped school bus that has its red lights flashing," according to the Ontario Ministry of Transportation. "If you don’t stop, you can be fined $400 to $2,000 and receive six demerit points for a first offence. If you are convicted a second time within five years, the penalty is a fine of $1,000 to $4,000 and six demerit points. You could also go to jail for up to six months."
