Huron and Perth County OPP will be joining other policing partners in a Thanksgiving long weekend traffic initiative.
The campaign runs from Friday, October 11 through Monday, October 14. According to the OPP, 295 people have died on OPP patrolled roads so far in 2024.
Thanksgiving weekend sees some of the heaviest traffic volumes of the year on Ontario roads, and the goal of this initiative is to deter aggressive and other high-risk behaviours to reduce the possibility of serious and fatal injuries.
During the campaign, police will be conducting enforcement and education on impaired driving, aggressive and inattentive/distracted driving, as well as lack of or improper use of seatbelts, which are all main causes of death and injury on Canadian roadways.
