Competition to offer LDSS students hands-on insight into agri-food careers

AgScape is bringing the thinkAG Career Competitions to life, offering students in Ontario an exciting, hands-on opportunity to explore career pathways within the agriculture and food sectors.

The competition aims to help students from Grades 9 to 12 make real-world connections with professionals working across the agri-food system, while learning about the diverse roles within the industry.

The in-person event, set to take place on Wednesday, October 9 will be held at Listowel District Secondary School's small gymnasium. Students will rotate through different interactive stations every ten minutes, where they will meet with agri-food representatives from various parts of the industry. These professionals include farmers, supply chain experts, conservationists, finance professionals, and others who play vital roles in ensuring that food systems operate efficiently.

Each station presents a unique activity, designed to engage students and offer them insights into different career options. Each class earns points based on their participation and engagement at each station, adding a competitive aspect to the learning experience. After points are tallied, the class with the highest score is named the competition winner..

The event will be divided into two sessions: the first from 8:10 to 9:30 a.m. and the second from 9:35 to 10:50 a.m., giving multiple groups of students a chance to participate throughout the morning.

The thinkAG Career Competition not only encourages students to think critically about the agriculture and food industries but also exposes them to a wide range of future career opportunities that many may not have considered before.
