Local students to celebrate iWALK/iWHEEL Month

Local students in the Upper Grand District School Board are being encouraged to get to school in a healthier way.

Students, staff, and families are being encouraged to walk, wheel or roll to and from school throughout the month, where able and where it is safe to do so to celebrate iWALK/iWHEEL Day on October 2 and iWALK/iWHEEL Month all of October.

IWALK/iWHEEL month is an international event that encourages students to be active on their journey between home and school. During iWALK/iWHEEL month, students all over the world will walk, bike, or wheel to and from school.

The UGDSB saysthat at schools where walking, wheeling, or rolling is not an option, or for students that ride a bus, time will be set aside to get active during recess.

The month encourages students, their families and staff to be healthier, and less air pollution and less traffic make for safer school zones.

Visit the Ontario Active School Travel website for more information and resources.

“The health and well-being of our students and staff is a priority for the UGDSB. We encourage our students to get moving as much as possible all year,” said Associate Director Brent McDonald. “I look forward to seeing some of the creative ways that our schools celebrate iWALK month this October.”
