Tersigni scores hat-trick for Attack, lose in shootout to Saginaw

It’s safe to say that Owen Sound forward Antonio Tersigni just played the best game of his OHL career.

The veteran scored a hat-trick on Sunday, though it wasn’t enough to beat the reigning Memorial Cup Champion Saginaw Spirit on the road as they lost 5-4 in a shootout.

Graydon Jones opened the scoring for Saginaw in the first period, notching his first career OHL goal.

The Attack would leave the period with the lead thanks two goals from Tersigni, his 4th and 5th of the year. Pierce Mbuyi assisted on both plays, while Harry Nansi helped on the second goal.

Sam McCue was able to extend Owen Sound’s lead with his 5th goal of the season. The goal was assisted by Jake Crawford and Landen Hookey.

Tersigni scored his third of the game later in the period with Mbuyi getting his third assist. The other helper went to Braedyn Rogers.

Saginaw forward Carson Harmer would cut the lead to two before the end of the period.

Owen Sound couldn’t hold off Saginaw in the third period as they scored twice to force overtime. Michael Misa scored his league leading 17th of the year before Jones got his second of the game.

Neither team were able to score in overtime.

Each team struggled in the shootout as the first 10 attempts were unsuccessful. The Attack’s Bruce McDonald and Saginaw’s Calem Mangone scored in the sixth round before Sebastian Gervais won the game for the Spirit in the eighth round.

With the loss, the Attack sees its record drop to 3-7-1-2, while Saginaw moves to 7-5-1-0.

These two will play again in Owen Sound on Saturday, November 2.
