Palmerston to host 2025 Elementary Curling Championships

The Palmerston Curling Club will be hosting a big event next spring.

The curling club and arena will play host to the 2025 Elementary Curling Championships.

Chrissie Schneider, Co-Chair of the tournament organizing committee, says they're very excited to welcome elementary school teams from across the province next April.

"The teams can be from the same curling club or the same school. The Palmerston Curling Club will be welcoming up to 64 teams to the Town of Minto from all across Ontario, so it's a pretty big deal for our club," Schneider enthused.

Schneider says the curling club's four sheets will be added onto thanks to some help from the Town of Minto.

"We're going to be transforming the arena ice at the Palmerston Arena into a four-sheet curling surface. So in addition to the four sheets at the curling club, we'll have eight sheets of curling under one roof," Schneider shared.

The Town of Minto agreed to lend the arena and ice to the event for no cost. However, Schneider says they are looking for sponsors to help with the cost of hosting the event, which will be held April 3-6 next spring.

Any interested businesses or individuals can contact them and learn more on the Palmerston Curling Club Facebook and Instagram pages.

Ultimately, Schneider adds that the organizing committee is very excited to welcome so many young curlers and to continue to foster love for the sport, which she says has been growing in popularity with young people.

"Our junior curling program, even at the Palmerston Curling Club, has been growing over the past number of years. It's just a great sport that people of all ages can be involved in. For me personally, my whole family curls, my kids curl, my husband curls, and it's just a great sport that we can all take part in," added Schneider.
