North Huron celebrates upgrades to Cruickshank Park

Cruickshank Park is set to host more activities after upgrades were completed over the summer.

The Wingham park recently received lighting upgrades, new benches and a commemorative stone dedicated to Doc Cruickshank, the founder of CKNX.

Reeve Paul Heffer said the upgrades were funded through a Rural Economic Development grant and a generous donation from the Cruickshank family.

"I'd say probably with everything, it'll be in the window of around $70,000, maybe even more," he said. "The family contributed a nice bit towards that so that was very nice."

Heffer says the overhauled electrical work means town staff already have plans to make use of the stage area with more events.

"They're hoping to bring in, just different things, people want to come in and sing, just nice simple quiet events for right now," he said. "Art in the Park, I know that's in the offing too. We haven't been able to do things like that, now the option is there to do it."

The upgrades were completed over the summer, however one more light still needs to be installed.

At a celebration event on Thursday, Heffer thanked not only the Cruickshank family, but all the volunteers from the Wingham Horticultural Society, who help keep the park beautiful.

"Kudos to the volunteers that work to make this park," he said. "If it wasn't for them, we wouldn't have these parks... we're just so fortunate to have volunteers in the town that are willing to do things."
