11-year-old pedestrian hurt in Owen Sound collision

An 11-year-old was taken to hospital after being hit by a vehicle at an intersection in Owen Sound.

The child was using the crosswalk at 10th Street West and 8th Avenue West just after 8 a.m. on Thursday when they were struck by a BMW.

The vehicle was attempting to turn right into a plaza at the time of the collision, Owen Sound police said.

The child suffered minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

The driver remained at the scene.

Police temporarily reduced 10th Street West to one lane while officers investigated the collision.

A 32-year-old Owen Sound man is charged with careless driving and failing to yield to a pedestrian.
