Charges have been laid against a motorcyclist who allegedly sped away from a Grey Bruce OPP officer who was trying to pull him over, only to get stopped in a roadside sobriety checkpoint.
According to police, the officer was on patrol on Highway 6 at Mar in South Bruce Peninsula when a motorcycle was spotted speeding just before 9:15 a.m. on Saturday. The bike was clocked travelling at 133 kilometres an hour in a posted 80 kilometre an hour zone police said.
The officer put on their emergency lights and tried to pull the motorcycle over. However, the bike did not stop and allegedly took off at a high rate of speed.
The motorcycle ended up getting caught in a RIDE program that was set up nearby. The driver was arrested.
A 34-year-old Guelph man is charged with flight from a peace officer and dangerous driving. His licence was also suspended for 30 days and the motorcycle impounded for 14 days.
The man is scheduled to appear in Owen Sound court in relation to the charges on October 3.
