No injuries in Owen Sound basement fire

No one was injured in a fire that broke out in the basement of an Owen Sound home Friday night.

Ten members of the Owen Sound Fire Department responded to a report of a fire in the 2100-block of Sixth Avenue East around 10:30 p.m.

A spokesperson for the department said there was no one inside the home at the time of the fire. They were alerted to the fire by a neighbour who heard the smoke alarms.

The blaze was contained to the basement. Crews cleared the scene around 1 a.m.

Damage is estimated at over $50,000. 

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
