OPP hosting job fair for civilian positions

The Grey Bruce OPP are holding an upcoming job fair to fill a number of civilian positions.

Constable Krista Linthorne says there are a few positions that they are looking to fill now and some that will be needed in the near future, and the jobs available cover a wide variety of responsibilities.

"The available positions are Special Constable, these usually work with our court system. Then there's Detachment Administration Clerks, which is a front desk type of position. But you don't just answer the phones, you actually have to do freedom of information, payroll and other duties," Linthorne shared.

There are also a few other positions that will be discussed at the job fair, including a new one called a Detachment Operational Clerk.

"So this position, they will work with our officers. You'll work a 12 hour shift and you'll do administration work for the officers. We also have Civilian Guards, which is an on-call position that will watch our prisoners when we have them in custody," explained Linthorne.

Additionally, new Auxiliary members are being sought by the OPP, as well, and as Constable Linthorne explains, these volunteer members can do a number of different duties.

"They can do ride-alongs with officers. If you're not really into that, you can do community events. You can do crime assessments at residences and buildings. So for instance, seeing what people can do to make their building safer," Linthorne noted.

Anyone interested in attending the OPP job fair can RSVP by calling the Wiarton detachment, which will host the job fair, or by emailing Constable Linthorne at krista.linthorne@opp.ca. There will be two sessions on Wednesday, September 25 from 4-5 p.m. and 6-7 p.m.
