Sarawak Family Park updates celebrated

Georgian Bluffs officially celebrated updates to Sarawak Family Park with a ribbon cutting on Wednesday.

Local officials and community members gathered at the lakeside park near Balmy Beach.

New features were added to make the park more accessible and sustainable. That includes the installation of the first-ever electric vehicle (EV) charging station on Georgian Bluffs’ property, provided by FLO. The township plans to install more EV charging stations in the coming months to support sustainable transportation options.

“The new amenities, at Sarawak Family Park reflect our commitment to creating spaces that are sustainable, inclusive, and welcoming for everyone,” said Mayor Sue Carleton. “We’re continuing to invest in our parks to ensure they remain a vibrant part of life in Georgian Bluffs where families can gather, enjoy the outdoors, and connect with nature.”

“The installation of the EV charging station is a key part of our strategy to support sustainable infrastructure," added CAO Niall Lobley. "It’s just the first of many steps we’re taking to make Georgian Bluffs more eco-friendly, and we’re excited to see this project expand in the near future.”

The park also features a new kayak rack and a mobi-mat accessible walkway, with additional trees planted making it a more welcoming and usable space for all visitors.

The improvements come after recent enhancements to the park’s washroom facilities, which were funded by the Scenic City Order of Good Cheer.
