Warrant issued for third suspect in Owen Sound assault and robbery

An arrest warrant has been issued for a 31-year-old man wanted in an assault and robbery in Owen Sound that left another man in critical condition.

David Ward, of no fixed address, is wanted in the violent encounter that happened nearly two weeks ago on August 18 around 5 p.m.

Officers with the Owen Sound police criminal investigation branch and the forensic identification unit determined two men met up with a third man in the parking lot of an east-side apartment building, with one immediately assaulting another until he fell to the ground unconscious. The pair then reportedly robbed the unconscious man before taking off in a vehicle.

A fourth man chased the pair, shooting out the windows of their vehicle and a nearby bus shelter with an air pistol.

A 46-year-old from Owen Sound was arrested at the scene and an air pistol, expandable baton, and a knife were seized. The 46-year-old was charged with 10 offences including pointing a firearm and careless use of a firearm.

Investigators found the suspect vehicle at a nearby industrial property shortly after the incident. A search of it turned up more than $4,000 worth of methamphetamine and fentanyl, as well as weapons.

Four days later, a 22-year-old of no fixed address was arrested. He was charged with eight offences including aggravated assault, robbery and drug and weapons offences.

On Friday, police announced Ward is being sought on charges of robbery and possession of property obtained by crime. Police also publicly released a grainy photo of Ward, which can be seen below. Anyone who knows of Ward's whereabouts is advised not to approach him but to call police immediately at 519-376-1234 or Detective Constable Bridgeman at (519) 376-1234 ext. 1189. Tips can also be made through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).

The victim, who had to be airlifted from Bright Shores hospital to London hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries, remains in critical but stable condition.
