Police arrest hit-and-run suspect

A hit-and-run suspect has been arrested and charged by Stratford Police Service.

On August 24 just after 12:30 p.m., Stratford Police Service were notified of a hit-and-run on Lorne Avenue East at Downie Street in Stratford.

Police were told a black Nissan Murano was heading east on Lorne Avenue when it hit a black Mercedes SUV from behind, causing it to collide with a blue Honda. The driver of the Nissan then drove off and hit another vehicle, a black van, on Lorne Avenue before turning south onto Perth Road 112.

The Nissan was later seen crashing into the ditch on Road 112 at Line 29 and it failed to stop at the stop sign at the intersection there.

The driver of the Nissan was later located and arrested by Woodstock Police Service in Woodstock later that day. The 59-year-old driver now faces numerous charges including failure to stop after an accident, careless driving, disobey stop sign and other driving offences.

The accused was later released with a court date scheduled for October 7.
