Christopher's Crew continues fundraising for Huron Bruce Kidney Walk

A Kincardine group that has raised $120,000 for the Huron Bruce Kidney Walk hopes for another successful event this year.

Cathy Pennington pointed out that Christopher's Crew has been raising money for a decade, after her son Christopher Pennington, was diagnosed with Kidney disease.

"So it's very important to me, because obviously our son was diagnosed with kidney disease when he was ten," said Pennington. "But then, you know, throughout our lives, we've met lots of people that have had kidney transplants. One in ten Canadians have kidney disease. So it's something that we feel is really important."

Christopher is now 20-years-old, but his family is continuing the tradition.

"It started out, it was a little project that our family put together in support of our son, Christopher," she explained. "And as Christopher has gotten older, he sort of stepped away, and we are just carrying it on because we feel that kidney disease (fundraising) is very important."

Christopher's Crew is again hosting a fundraising auction which takes place from August 26 to August 29. People can go to the Christopher's Crew Facebook page to bid on a long list of items. Pennington said they're very thankful for the donated items, and the people who support their fundraising goal.

"We usually stay anywhere from $10,000 to $15,000," Pennington added. "We had an amazing year last year. We made $22,000. But we always like to start out saying we're going to make $10,000 and then if we go over that, we are super happy."

This year's walk takes place September 8 at 10:00 a.m. at Station Beach in Kincardine.
