Another brand of baby cereal has been recalled due to possible Cronobacter contamination.
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency issued the recall for Gerber brand oat banana and mango baby cereal after it tested positive for the bacteria. The affected product is the 227gram box with a best before date of May 30, 2025.
Food contaminated with Cronobacter may not look or smell spoiled but can make you sick.
The agency warns in a statement, "although Cronobacter is not commonly linked to human illness, in rare cases it can cause serious or fatal infections." And added, "Cronobacter can cause rare bloodstream and central nervous system infections and has been associated with severe intestinal infection (necrotizing enterocolitis) and blood poisoning (sepsis), especially in newborns."
If you have the affected product the agency advises that it should be not consumed and should be thrown out or returned to the place of purchase.
