Owen Sound & North Grey Union Public Library is offering children the chance to learn all about snakes.
Sciensational Sssnakes is offering an education session in the Library’s Auditorium to talk about the cold blooded creature's senses, habits, and behavior.
A media release from the library said snakes are the perfect ambassadors for some cold blooded hands-on learning because they are safe, clean, and easy to handle.
Children will have the opportunity to touch, hold or even wear the snakes, with a focus on safety for both the animals and the participants.
Based out of Guelph, Sciensational Sssnakes was started by Jenny Pearce in 1994, with a goal of encouraging conservation through education.
Families are invited to learn all about the slithering reptiles on Tuesday, August 13 from 2:00-3:00 p.m. Spaces are limited, so people should buy tickets now. Tickets are available at the Circulation Desk, with a cost of $5 per person.
"They currently maintain one of the most complete collections representing live Ontario herpetofauna in captivity in the province," continued a media release from the library. "In addition to their collection of native snakes, turtles, and frogs, Sciensational Sssnakes also maintains a substantial number of exotic species in their collection."
Children in grades K-6 will enjoy this hands-on educational program about reptiles and amphibians, with a focus on native Ontario species and the importance of taking care of our natural world.
