Huron Bruce MPP Lisa Thompson and Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound MPP Rick Byers have announced additional healthcare funding in their ridings.
According to a joint release from Thompson and Byers, the province is investing an additional $8.56 million in the region to "deliver faster, more connected care to people in Bruce, Grey and Owen Sound."
The release also states that this funding is part of the provincial government's investment of an additional $965 million, through the 2024 Budget.
Organizations splitting the announced funding include Brightshores Health System, which is receiving just over $5.9 million, Hanover and District Hospital is getting just under $800,000 and South Bruce Grey Health Centre is getting roughly $1.8 million.
“This additional funding to hospital operating budgets will help hospitals keep emergency departments open, support inflationary or other wage pressures and reduce wait times for diagnostic imaging and surgical procedures, including MRI, CT, cardiac, stroke, neuro-services, orthopedics, and cataracts so that people can connect to care faster,” said MPP Byers.
"Increasing investments for our local hospitals in Bruce, Grey and Owen Sound is important to ensure proper supports, close to home, continue to be in place," added MPP Thompson.
“Our government is continuing to make record investments in our publicly funded healthcare system to connect families across the province to the care they need, when they need it,” said Sylvia Jones, Deputy Premier and Minister of Health. “This unprecedented investment in our hospitals will ensure they can continue to deliver high quality care while reducing wait lists and wait times in their communities, for years to come.”
