Police arrest second person in connection with Meaford homicide

A second person has been charged in connection to a Meaford homicide.

On July 25, Grey Bruce OPP arrested and charged a second person in connection to the death of 25-year-old Emerson Sprung.

Sprung was reported missing on May 3, 2020, and his remains were found days later on May 6.

Matthew McQuarrie, 34, was sentenced to life in prison with no chance of parole for 15 years following his sentencing hearing in Owen Sound on Monday, June 17, 2024.

Police say Laurel Campbell, a 32-year-old of Meaford, has now been arrested and charged with accessory after the fact to murder.

The accused has been held for a bail hearing and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound on September 19, 2024.

The charges have yet to be proven in a court of law.
