Kincardine calls out racism in monument discussions

The Municipality of Kincardine issued a statement Friday condemning the rise of racism in the community, in response to the second Secord Monument discussion.

A report on public engagement surrounding the monument was submitted to council this week and in the lead-up, anti-black comments were expressed on the Municipality's social media posts. Kincardine says all those comments have been reported to the OPP.

The Municipality also expressed concern over threats surrounding the Afro-Centric mural at the Davidson Centre. It warned that it will support the prosecution of any vandalism perpetrators to the fullest authority of the law.

Finally, Kincardine urged civil and respectful conversations concerning the Secord monument and the unity of all residents.
