Saugeen Shores celebrated the opening of a brand new playground.
On July 22, a ribbon cutting was held by the town to officially open the new Saugeen Shores Rotary Club accessible playground.
The opening of the playground marked the completion of Phase 2 of development for Lamont Sports Park in Port Elgin.
Features of the accessible playground include poured-in-place rubber surfacing, play equipment that is accessible by ramp, a wheelchair-accessible gondola, accessible swings, sensory learning panels and accessible tables and benches.
Funding for the park came from the Saugeen Shores Rotary Club, as well as a grant from Kraft Heinz following Saugeen Shores winning the Project Play contest in 2019.
Phase 2 of the Lamont Sports Park redevelopment included the opening of the central square, a second parking lot and trail access from the west. Phase 3 will feature two additional ball diamonds and a double batting cage with storage in 2025.
