Global network outage affects local hospitals, patient care unaffected

A worldwide network outage has affected numerous industries around the globe, including local hospitals.

A statement from the Huron Perth Healthcare Alliance (HPHA) says that its network was affected by an outage that has affected its ability to access electronic records and utilize certain digital services.

However, the HPHA says that patient care is not affected by the outage. The HPHA also notes that the network issue is not related to cyber security.

Flights were grounded, bank networks were affected, and hospital systems around the world were knocked offline on the morning of July 19 when a software disruption affected computers running Microsoft Windows.

The Associated Press reported that cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike said that the issue it thinks was behind the outage was not a security incident or cyberattack. The company said the problem occurred when it deployed a faulty update to computers running Microsoft Windows.
