An eastern Ontario woman will take over the reins of the Listowel Wingham Hospitals Alliance this September.
The alliance's board of directors announced on Thursday Esther Millar has been selected as its new president and CEO.
Millar will be replacing outgoing President and CEO Karl Ellis, who announced his retirement after 14 years on the job in January. During his time as alliance head, Ellis oversaw major renovations and CT projects at Listowel Memorial Hospital and Wingham and District Hospital and provided steady leadership through the COVID-19 pandemic, cyber security attacks, and a recent fire.
According to the board, Millar holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and a Master of Business Administration and has worked as a senior health care executive across the province. Her priorities include supporting health care access closer to home and furthering the role of small and medium sized hospitals in the health care system. She is said to put a high value on transparency, teamwork, and keeping patients at the centre of decision-making.
Millar was born and raised in Eastern Ontario. She is married to an OPP officer and has two grown children.
Her first day as president and CEO of the Listowel Wingham Hospitals Alliance is September 9.
