Woman arrested after Pride banner stolen in Owen Sound

Owen Sound police have arrested a 41-year-old woman with no fixed address after a Pride banner was stolen from a church. The suspect has been charged with theft under $5,000 and failing to comply with her probation order.

According to police, the incident occurred on July 13, 2024, when an alert citizen witnessed the theft in broad daylight and captured photos of a woman attempting to conceal the banner in her bag. The citizen reported the theft to the church staff, who then informed the police on July 15. Officers reviewed the photo evidence and identified a suspect.

Later on July 13, the same woman was arrested by Owen Sound police for several unrelated thefts and possession of stolen property. She was remanded into custody on July 14.
