Major upgrade for St. Anne's track and field facilities

St. Anne’s Catholic Secondary School in Clinton is receiving a significant upgrade to its track and field facilities, thanks to a $1.3 million investment by the Huron-Perth Catholic District School Board.

The rebuild, already underway, will replace the 25-year-old track with a new asphalt surface and rubberized coating. Additionally, drainage issues on the soccer, rugby, and field hockey pitch will be addressed, and a new field house will be constructed for equipment storage.

"This project represents a significant investment by the Board for St. Anne’s, Huron-Perth Athletics, and the County of Huron," said Director of Education Chris N. Roehrig. "We are proud to be a strong community partner."

The upgrades come after severe ponding and drainage issues in April and May 2024, which compromised several soccer and rugby matches.

St. Anne's Vice-Principal Laura Blackmore says the new facilities will benefit students across Huron and surrounding counties.

"By investing in the track rebuild and inner field upgrade, future generations will have access to high-level training facilities, enabling rural athletes to compete and succeed at provincial and national levels. We look forward to its completion in the fall of 2024,"

The updates are expected to be completed in time for the coming school year.
