Head-on crash caused by 'medical event': Owen Sound police

A medical emergency led to a head-on crash in Owen Sound on Wednesday night.

According to the Owen Sound Police Service, a northbound car and southbound pickup truck collided on 3rd Avenue West near 8th Street West just after 6 p.m.

Investigators determined the car had veered into the path of the truck.

"It’s believed the 77-year-old driver suffered a medical event immediately prior to the collision," police said in a statement.

Paramedics treated the car driver at the scene before taking them to hospital for further medical attention. There is no word whether the truck driver was hurt, but police did note that the collision occurred at a "low impact speed".

The investigation is ongoing, police said.
