Firefighters rescue dog from burning home in Blyth

One person had to be treated for smoke inhalation after a house fire in Blyth.

North Huron firefighters were called to the blaze on Drummond Street around 6 a.m. on Monday.

A working smoke alarm is credited with alerting the residents of the home to the fire, allowing them time to get out. When fire crews arrived, they rescued the family dog from the burning home.

While an official estimate has not yet been determined, damage to the home is considered major, Fire Chief Chad Kregar said.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. It has been deemed non-suspicious.
