Youth charged with first-degree murder in Central Huron death

A person police are only describing as a "youth" has been charged with first-degree murder in a death in a rural community northwest of Clinton.

Huron OPP announced the arrest and charge of the young person on Wednesday afternoon. It comes a day after emergency crews were called to an address on Cut Line Road between Parr Line and Tipperary Line in Holmesville. A young person was found at that location around 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday and rushed to hospital where they were later pronounced dead, police said.

No other details about the deceased or the manner of death have been released.

"We want to take this opportunity to stress to the community that there are no safety concerns at this time," Constable Melissa Barfoot said in a video posted to social media. "We would like to thank the public for their assistance and our thoughts go out to everyone affected by this tragedy."

The youth, who cannot be identified because of their age, was scheduled to make a court appearance in relation to the charge on Wednesday.

Road blocks remain in place as the Huron County OPP crime unit and OPP criminal investigation branch continues to probe the incident, Barfoot said.

Anyone with information is being asked to call OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
