South Bruce OPP officers handed out 201 traffic related violations during their latest traffic safety blitz.
The Canada Road Safety Week campaign focused on the "Big 4" causal factors in serious collisions on OPP patrolled roadways; Impaired Driving, Distracted Driving, Aggressive Driving and Fail to wear a Seatbelt.
The majority of the charges were for speeding, with 156 drivers caught going over the posted limit.
As well, there were two stunt driving charges, one impaired driving charge, two seatbelt charges, and two distracted driving charges. Officers also laid 38 other Provincial offence charges.
In all, South Bruce OPP set up 24 Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) programs were set up at various locations throughout the campaign.
During the week-long campaign, the South Bruce OPP investigated 23 motor vehicle collisions. There were minor injuries reported at two of the collision scenes.
"I'm pleased to see that we had no fatal motor vehicle collisions during this time frame However, these results tell us that we have too many drivers continuing to take chances with road safety," said Inspector Keegan Wilcox, Detachment Commander, South Bruce OPP. "The Canada Day Week traffic safety initiative has ended, but the South Bruce OPP remain committed to road safety all year long. Motorists on Southern Bruce County roads can expect to see our officers' stopping drivers that pose a risk to your safety."
