Grand Bend holding first-ever Ribfest on Canada Day weekend

The delicious smell of ribs will be in the air this Canada Day weekend in Grand Bend.

The town's first-ever ribfest is scheduled for Friday to Monday at the Grand Bend Speedway, presented by Rims and Ribs.

Four world-class award winning ribbers will be on hand from Bubba Lou's Bar B Q, Crazy Canuck Smokehouse, Brickyard BBQ, and Outlaw BBQ.

There's also a car show, kids' activities, live entertainment and the Go Kart track is open to try.

Spokesman Chris Glassford said residents can vote for their favourite ribber, and there's also a hot sauce competition.

"Ribfest is the hottest festival of the year," laughed Glassford. "So, we've got to have that aspect, and it's all people's choice. We have three hot sauce categories in hot, barbeque and specialty. These hot sauce vendors are coming from everywhere to try and win your votes."

Glassford said they're looking for cool cars to come out, too.

"We love to incorporate some form of vehicle in our events," he said. "If you've got a cool car, we want you to show it off. We'll put you really close to the action so people can check out your awesome ride that you've driven into Grand Bend Ribfest."

Glassford said there are also activities happening at the nearby Grand Bend Motorplex.

"There's an exotic car racing show at the Motorplex all weekend," said Glassford. "So, you can grab some ribs at the speedway, have a great time there with the entertainment, and check out the racing next door. Of course, on Canada Day we have our big celebration at the beach."

He said it's always rocking in Grand Bend, especially during a long summer weekend.

"It's amazing, Grand Bend can go from a small population to about 30,000 or 40,000 people in ten seconds. You've got your campers and all your cottagers. There's something for everyone at ribfest and next door to enjoy."

Gates at ribfest will be open on Friday from 3 p.m. until 11 p.m., Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. until 11 p.m., and Monday from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m.
