First ever Comic-con event coming to Bruce County

Southampton will play host to a fun event next month.

The first ever Bruce County Comic-con will be taking place on Saturday, July 13 at the Southampton Coliseum from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Organizer Julia Barac says she's been collecting things since she was a child and has attended numerous comic-con events over the years, and she thought it would be a great opportunity to bring the fun of comic-con to the area.

"I recently purchased a cottage in Southampton and I thought maybe this would be something good to bring to the area. I haven't seen anything like it in the area, all the way from even Owen Sound, through Southampton and Kincardine, that whole area, so we thought we'd give it a try and test the market and see how it goes," Barac said.

Barac is co-organizing the event with her boyfriend, Jonathan Moniz.

The free event will feature over 130 different vendors, covering comic books, sports cards and memorabilia, pokémon and many more.  There will also be special guests and a special gift for early birds.

"The first 50 guests through the door are gonna receive a free VIP shopping bag courtesy of our sponsors, which is awesome and is full of all kinds of goodies. We also have free face painting, and some special guest. This will turn some heads, but we have Batman and the Batmobile, and he'll be driving up from Toronto," Barac shared excitedly.

Batman and the Batmobile will be alongside the Saugeen Shores Police for photo opportunities. Barac notes the special guests don't stop there.

"We also have some cos-play guests, so people who dress up in costumes. We have Spider-Man, a Power Ranger, Harley Quinn and a giant 8-foot tall Eevee, which is a pokémon. We have all kinds of free activities. The Bruce County Museum and Cultural Centre will be there alongside the Southampton Art Bike for crafts, as well," added Barac.
