Demolition of old municipal office to commence in the summer

West Perth is moving ahead with the demolition of the old Municipal Office in Mitchell.

Nic Larsen, Director of Community Services, says council approved the contract of the demolition that was awarded to Salandria Ltd. He expects the work will commence following the Mitchell 150 celebrations.

"The idea is for them to start setting up the site on August 5, and according to their schedule they should be done sometime between October 5-8 I believe," Larsen shared.

The contract tender was just over $181,000, and was budgeted for in this year's West Perth Capital Budget. Larsen adds so far, there are no concrete plans for what the property could turn into in the future.

"That'll be right back to basically grass. They'll fill everything back in at the site and plant grass, and we'll maintain it going forward after that. It might be a bit sad to see it go, I never worked in there but I did do Junior Beavers and stuff in there growing up, but I think a lot of people are excited to see it go down, as well," added Larsen.
