United Way hoping to add new committee members

The United Way Perth Huron is looking for volunteers to add to its Community Impact and Allocations Committee.

Executive Director, Ryan Erb, explains that the committee serves a very important purpose.

"It has the responsibility of deciding how to invest the dollars that United Way fundraises into the community. So it assesses the needs and receives applications for funding from organizations, and it prioritizes concerns in the community and decides then basically who gets the money," Erb explained.

Erb notes that new members would have a few responsibilities.

"Anyone who is on our Community Impact and Allocations Committee comes to about 9 meetings a year, they're about 90 minutes in length. At those meetings, they are helping to assess needs in the community, they're helping to adjust policy to meet those needs moving forward," Erb continued. "Specifically, they'll be reviewing applications that come in from our partners in the community who are looking for funding for various things that they are doing."

The committee is looking for 3-4 new members, preferably from Huron County.

"We have a few more from Perth currently so we have a little bit of rebalancing to do that way. We're hoping to find some people with various backgrounds, people maybe who have come from social services that understand the needs, or others that have a financial background who can help assess budgets and those sorts of things. A variety of people are needed to accomplish the work of the Community Impact and Allocations Committee," Erb added.
