MPP announces tourism funding

Perth-Wellington MPP Matthew Rae recently announced funding for local tourism initiatives.

The $235,000 in funding from the Experience Ontario Grant program will be split between three organizations.

The Stratford Tourism Alliance is receiving $55,000, as is the Here for Now Theatre. Also, the Stratford Festival is getting $125,000.

Since 2007, when the Experience Ontario Grant was introduced, the province has supplied local Ontario tourism organizations with more than $284 million for over 3,600 Ontario festivals and events.

“Our tourism industry employs a lot of people and provides many good-paying jobs locally,” Rae said. “Our government will continue to support this vital sector as it emerges and rebuilds from the pandemic years. I encourage everyone to explore the many festivals, theatres, and events that occur year-round in Perth-Wellington.”

The funding was announced on June 6.

“Festivals and events enrich the lives of Ontarians and strengthen local economies,” added Neil Lumsden, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sport. “I am proud that our government is supporting festival and event organizers through the Experience Ontario 2024 program, helping them to create unique local experiences that will attract visitors, create jobs and promote economic development.”
