Goderich flight school takes off

A new flight school operating out of the Goderich Regional Airport is certified and ready for students.

The Ontario College of Business and Technology Flight Centre received certification from Transport Canada in March.

Now, Dean of the School of Aviation Waseem Javed says they're looking for students eager to get their pilot's licence.

"We're official, we are live. We accept walk-ins, we accept students that are ready to go now, we accept students that are ready to go in September," he said. "We're also working on establishing a relationship with the local high schools right now, trying to encourage the future generation of aviators by just coming out and spending a day at the airport."

To help attract interest and spread the word, the school's Chief Flight Instructor Moein Sadeghizadeh will have a booth set up when the historic Lancaster visits the airport next week.

Javed said it's one of many aviation offerings they want to operate out of the local airport.

"This is just the beginning of us bringing more aviation services," he said. "We are going to be launching a charter airline with air taxi operation that is going to be local. We are in the certification process with Transport Canada right now for it, by the name of Canada One Air. It's a 702/703 air taxi operation that is going to feature a nine-passenger aircraft that will be able to travel anywhere in Ontario."
