Auto theft suspect arrested at gunpoint in Hanover

Hanover Police Service has arrested a suspect found in a stolen vehicle in collaboration with West Grey Police Service over the weekend.

On June 1 around 9 a.m., an officer found the vehicle at Mac's Milk at Bruce Road 10 and Concession 2. The vehicle was idling with a male suspect in the driver's seat in the parking lot.

The police services arrested the suspect at gunpoint without incident.

A stun gun, other weapons, $4,200 worth of cocaine, $800 worth of methamphetamine, drug trafficking paraphernalia, and more than $1,800 in Canadian money was recovered by officers.

Hanover police said after further investigation, it was found the license plates on the vehicle weren't real and were printed on paper, covered with a license plate cover. The number on the fake plats matched one of a real vehicle with the same make, model, and colour.

A 40-year-old man of no fixed address has been charged with various theft and drug charges, in addition to failure to comply with probation and release orders.

The stolen vehicle was taken from Waterloo in July 2023. The suspect was wanted in several police jurisdictions for another incident.
