Province announces $28M for new school in Dundalk

The provincial government is investing $28 million to build a new elementary school in Dundalk, intended to support the growing number of families in Southgate Township.

The new school, which will compliment Highpoint Community and Dundalk and Proton Community schools, is part of a $1.3 billion Capital Priorities Program aimed at expanding educational infrastructure. The investment will create 735 student spaces and 54 licensed child care spaces, addressing the area's rapid housing growth.

Education Minister Stephen Lecce highlighted that this initiative represents the largest single-year investment in school construction in Ontario's history, adding over 27,000 student spaces and 1,700 child care spaces across the province. The 2024 budget includes $16 billion for new school construction, repairs, and renewal over the next decade.

“Our government is doubling the funding to build new schools, stepping up to ensure children have access to top-notch schools close to home,” Lecce stated.

Bluewater District School Board Chair Jane Thomson expressed gratitude for the funding, noting that the new school will help meet the educational needs of Dundalk's growing population.

The new Dundalk elementary school will be located on a site to be acquired in Southgate.
