Durham Street Bridge rehabilitation work begins this week, meaning a main artery to Downtown Walkerton will be reduced to one alternating lane for the foreseeable future.
Bruce County says motorists can expect lane closures on the County Road 4 bridge, with traffic control measures in place, starting the week of May 27 and ending in December 2024.
While alternating lane closures can be inconvenient, this approach was welcomed by the local business community, after initial plans to repair the bridge involved closing it altogether for over a year.
The work being completed by Pullman and Structural Technologies is part of immediate repairs needed to shore up the bridge's half-joints. The County asks drivers to be patient and safe as the Contractor works to complete crucial repairs to the bridge.
The Environmental Assessment that will guide the overall rehabilitation is still being completed.
