Infant/Toddler choking and CPR workshop coming to North Perth

The Municipality of North Perth will hold an infant and toddler choking and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) workshop for parents or expectant parents looking to be prepared for an emergency.

"This is so important to learn because emergencies do happen, especially when we're least prepared," said Laura Carson, EarlyON coordinator for North Perth. "It gives everyone peace of mind when they are caring for a child. They will have the tools and knowledge to know what to do."

Basic first aid will also be taught during the workshop. Carson said although this will teach the skills needed to save your child's life, it will not give you a first-aid certificate.

"It is going to be taught by a certified Red Cross instructor," said Carson. "This is just an evening workshop. It does teach those skills and they can use it for family, friends, nieces, nephews, any child they interact with, but it does not give them first aid qualification."

If you are interested in a full first aid and CPR qualification, the Red Cross does offer a two-day course.

If you would like to take part in the upcoming evening workshop, it will take place on May 28 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Steve Kerr Memorial Complex in Listowel. It's $15 per person and registration can be completed here.
