Teen arrested for spray painting bridge plaque

An 18-year-old from Owen Sound is facing mischief charges for vandalizing property around the inner harbour, including the Gichi-name-wiikwedong Bridge dedication plaque.

On Saturday morning, around 2 a.m., Owen Sound Police were notified by a concerned citizen that a person was spray painting graffiti downtown.

Officers responded to the area and say they witnessed a male spray painting an electrical box along the west harbor wall.

The suspect attempted to flee from an officer but was caught and arrested. Police say he "was in found in possession of items used to paint graffiti."

Several other locations were found to be tagged including pillars of the Gichi-name-wiikwedong Bridge, as well as its dedication plaque, along with other buildings, signs and a bus shelter in the area.

The 18-year-old faces is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice later this month.

Police ask residents if they see any graffiti similar to the attached photographs, to report it to Constable Jex at 519-376-1234.
