Hanover, Saugeen Shores police recover stolen vehicle

A joint investigation by the Hanover and Saugeen Shores police led to the recovery of a stolen vehicle and charges for a man and woman on Wednesday.

Hanover Police first responded to a report of a stolen SUV on Monday from the parking lot of a local business along 10th Street.

Police say the following day, a citizen reported seeing the stolen vehicle in a parking lot on Goderich Street in Port Elgin.

Through a joint investigation with Saugeen Shores Police and using surveillance footage, officers say they were able to identify both suspects.

On Wednesday, with assistance from the OPP Emergency Response Team (ERT), police surveyed an address in Port Elgin and around 2:30 p.m., the suspects were spotted and arrested without incident.

Police say a search warrant was executed at a motel room following the arrest, where officers recovered stolen property a small quantity of suspected cocaine and two replica handguns.

“The swift and safe conclusion of this investigation is an excellent example of how well our community and area policing partners work together.” said D/Chief Hebblethwaite.

A 43-year-old man and 33-year-old woman of no fixed arrest now face several charges including theft of a motor vehicle and possession of stolen property.
