Grey Bruce OPP are investigating after a family's pet cat was shot dead with a pellet gun.
On April 5, officers responded to a report that a family cat was shot with a pellet gun in South Bruce Peninsula.
Police spoke with the cat's owner, who told investigators the cat roams freely around town, and is out morning to night. On April 1, the owner noticed the cat acting strange and found a hole in its leg. A vet determined the cat had been shot with a pellet gun. It died from its injuries.
The OPP are reminding pet owners that most municipalities have by-laws for animals being at large. Pet owners are asked to educate themselves on their local by-laws. If you notice a nuisance animal on your property, contact your local by-law officer. Police say there is no reason for anyone to shoot a pet animal with a pellet gun.
