Avon Maitland School board will end Employment Ontario contract

The Avon Maitland District School Board (AMDSB) will not renew its Employment Services contract with Employment Ontario beyond March 31, 2025.

This means that the AMDSB Centre for Employment & Learning (CEL) will no longer be the provider of employment services for Huron County after a one year transition period.

Superintendent of Education Jane Morris explained several factors contributed to the decision, including increased operating costs and the desire to align board resources with their core mandate of supporting teaching and learning.

“We are here to support our staff who are impacted by this change as we transition away from employment services," added Morris. "We are grateful to them as they have provided exemplary employment services and support to members of our community.”

She said the Adult Education services will remain in place as these services support accessible learning opportunities across both counties.

The process to find another employment services provider for Huron County is underway. Employment Ontario will work through the Employment Services System (SSM) Manager in Bruce County to launch a new provided on April 1, 2025.

Throughout the next year, AMDSB will collaborate with the SSM to develop a smooth transition plan as they move towards this change.
