Paddyfest is well underway with loads of events still on tap this week during March Break.
Ben Zavitz of the Listowel Kinsmen says opening weekend was a big success, and there's a ton to do this week with the kids in mind.
"We've got a cornhole tournament for kids grades 5-9 happening with our Kin Cares Youth Program. There's other events for the kids this week, like the Paddyfest mini-stick tournament hosted by the Municipality of North Perth. The Kin Cares is hosting a dodgeball tournament from grades 4-9," Zavitz shared.
As per usual, Zavitz notes that there's a host of other things to do as we head toward the weekend.
"We've got euchre on Wednesday, we've got our Trivia and Taps on Thursday which is sold out already so that's exciting, and Friday night we've got our big concert with Owen Riegling and Bradley Hale. Saturday, we've got the Paddyfest parade and the Meulensteen Tire Homecoming Party to wrap it all up," said Zavitz.
Zavitz says it's been extremely encouraging seeing the level of participation from the community and beyond.
"Being out of COVID now and roughly a year after more or less removed from that where everyone was kinda catching up with life overall, we're starting to see that Listowel's grown exponentially large over the last 3-5 years. So now we're seeing new people and people new to town engaging with Paddyfest and that's fantastic," Zavitz said excitedly.
Growing up around Paddyfest, and to now be a key contributor toward making it happen, Zavitz says it means a lot.
"I never really saw myself in this role way back in the day when I was 19, 20, 21 going to the concerts. But the ability to pay it forward, not only just to give the community events to engage in, but to actively raise money to better it, it's a great feeling and makes all the work so worth it," Zavitz shared proudly.
