Huron-Perth libraries looking for menstrual product donations

Libraries in Huron and Perth are holding the Drive to End Period Poverty until March 10 as encouragement for the counties to donate.

Beth Rumble, county librarian, said this is also in an effort to keep the ongoing free menstrual product pilot project running.

"We've been really lucky so far," she said. "We've seen a lot of generosity, people just knowing that we're offering these products in our libraries and have already inquired about how they can help and wanting to make donations."

The drive was also put together in an effort to further education about period poverty, what it is, and how it can impact those who menstruate.

Donations can be made by taking any new, unopened products to any Huron-Perth library branch.

"We are also encouraging reusable products such as menstrual cups, period underwear, those types of things because there can be a higher initial upfront cost, but then you can use those multiple times," said Rumble, citing sustainability. "If you miss this drive, don't worry, we will always welcome donations so you could drop those off at your local library at any time."

Alternatively, there is an Amazon storefront for those who can't make it in person.

Rumble also reminds residents of the survey still available. It asks about what products should be offered and where in the county.
