A Grey County woman was one of 20 recipients of an Ontario Senior Achievement Award on February 29.
Norine Baron from Heathcote, was honoured in a special ceremony held in the Lieutenant Governor’s Suite at Queen's Park.
Michèle Sanborn, Assistant Deputy Minister for the Ministry for Seniors and Accessibility, says Baron's charitable work with a social services organization in Thornbury exemplifies what the award is about.
"As a founding member of the Beaver Valley Outreach (BVO) organization, Norine has made a profound impact on seniors programs, food security, poverty reduction, truth and reconciliation, access to transportation, advocacy, human rights nationally and globally, in addition to the over 18 programs that BVO offers," Sanborn said.
"Norine touches and enriches lives everyday with boundless energy, thought and good humour. She thoroughly enjoys life and tries to get as much out of it as possible. Underlying her work is a concern for the environment, which has propelled her involvement with several organizations, such as BVO, Climate Action Now Network, the Green Team at Grace United Church and Bruce Trail Conservancy," added Sanborn
The award recognizes people who have made outstanding contributions to their communities after the age of 65.
